20 years! It’s hard to believe to have the blog continue on for very long.
There have been challenges throughout the years but it’s still a privilege to keep it going.
Let’s go through the evolution of the seasons of the blog. The funny thing with the season numbering was based on Doctor Who’s revival in 2005. In the United Kingdom, they go by series. Early on the blog, it went by series in the numbering. After series/season 16, it went by season.
Seasons 1-4: Season 1 started in the final year at Carleton University. Just talked random stuff and what not.
Season 2 and Onwards: It was where the blog shifted to the local music scene and slowly getting into community radio.
Season 5-9: This was the radio years. The season/series numbering got slightly confusing because the radio side became a new thing. The blog became the companion to the radio as a summary of what was played.
Season 9 to present: Due to creative differences from the radio station. I have never explained why I quit the weekly radio show. It was due to issues with management, which they gave me the silent treatment until they were messing with me from the last half of 2013 to early 2014. It would have been nice to have continued with the radio program.
After the radio program ending, the blog continued to cover some of the local and national music scene.
It was also a privilege to cover the Polaris Music Prize. Attending the Gala were fun times and great meeting artists and people from the media and the music industry.
There were non music posts like attending city events.
Less entries have been written as every season goes by but the blog still kept continuing.
Series/Season 16: It was when I went to Hong Kong during the pandemic. Originally wanted to write a post while in Hong Kong but the Wi-Fi was not great and writing in a different time zone wouldn’t be ideal.
It’s rare going to Hong Kong but it’s one of those times I needed to document the wonderful city.
After returning from Hong Kong, the blog posts almost became daily as I needed to remember what I experienced. Unlike season 5-9 where it was posted weekly, it was first time it was done consecutively. It was quite the feat to doing it.
Currently: Continuing with certain events happening in the city and posted some things outside of Ottawa like going to Vancouver for a lion dance competition and checking out other places.
That’s the summary of the blog through the 20 seasons and 20 years.
Last thing, the blog has updated the logo. It needed to go the flat look. Can’t believe the logo has been around for more than 20 years. It’s longer than the blog. Hope the new look is better.
