Updated on May 26, 2010
Over the weekend, I had the opportunity to chat with Leif Vollebekk at the 1st May Whee Festival at Zaphod Beeblebrox.
Wednesday’s radio show will be fully updated later but for now, the Leif Vollebekk audio interview is posted up. You should enjoy the interview as it became a hilarious interview. I even made some goof-ups on the interview. I apologize for messing up on the question about The Balconies. He didn’t form the band, he helped gave Jacquie, Stephen and Liam the name.
Also on the radio show was an expanded edition of the countdown. For this week only, my Wild 5 Countdown became the W10 Countdown.
The W10 Countdown for Week of May 5, 2010.
1. Fixed – Stars
2. Forced to Love – Broken Social Scene (new entry)
3. Your Hands (Together) – The New Pornographers (new entry)
4. The Right Time (feat. Tyler Bancroft) – Hannah Georgas
5. Laura Palmer’s Prom – You Say Party! We Say Die! (was #1 last week)
6. No Ghost – The Acorn (new)
7. Celestica – Crystal Castles (new)
8. Breakneck Speed – Tokyo Police Club (new)
9. Authentic – Young Rival (new)
10. Ghost Pressure – Wolf Parade (new)
It still saddens me when I play Laura Palmer’s Prom by You Say Party! We Say Die! since the band lost Devon Clifford. I have never felt sadness when a musician passes away from North America. It was the ones from Hong Kong (i.e. Leslie Cheung and Anita Mui) that I grew up idolizing and watching, which I felt the impact.
After the top 10, I had a shortened edition of WildWorks Extra where I played several Teresa Teng songs as a tribute because May 8, 1995 was when she passed away from a severe asthma in Thailand and fans throughout Asia mourned the loss of a great diva. I briefly mentioned that her songs have been played in movies and I forgot to mention this 1996 Hong Kong movie, “Comrades: Almost a Love Story.” Here’s a clip from the movie.
Mother’s Day is upon us and I played three Cantopop song which somewhat deals about mom. The ever popular song from Beyond is always played on Mother’s Day in Hong Kong.

Wednesday Night – New Photo of Me… Finally
Even though I spent the whole day at CKCU-FM doing some advanced radio taping for the Summer, another excuse to stay long was to go to a friend’s farewell party at Sir John A. Pub on Elgin St. It’s been awhile I have seen some people from Political Science classes at Carleton University. Even though, I didn’t get a chance to talk to the friend who’s leaving to Botswana for the Summer. I came for support and meet up some people who I haven’t seen in awhile, it was all good fun. You can check her blog at this link and the info of the initiative she’s taking part. All I can say is, stay safe and have fun while you are in Botswana.
Oh yea, here’s two photos and it’s been awhile that I have been in photos. Mind you, I just uploaded them and I didn’t do any editing.
Another Radio Show
I had to help the gang from The New Midnight Jamz set up and record their show as their main host was away. It was sheer pandemonium but overall, the gang liked the May 8th edition of the show.

The May 12th Radio Show
It wasn’t an important radio show as I had to deal with SOCAN and their music survey. You can check the playlist by going to this link. Here’s also the Wild 5 Countdown.

The Silver Starling and Snailhouse Interviews for May 19, 2010
Instead of creating a new entry, I’ve decided to continue this entry as I retitled to make it the whole month of May. Due to a slight change on the radio show, I’ve decided to go solo for the remainder of the Wednesday 10am-12pm slot. I was suppose to have Laurent Bourque on the show but there was a scheduling issue, so I had to air the Silver Starling and Snailhouse interviews. The funny part with the Snailhouse interview was mentioning and playing the theme song of Jem & The Holograms. As usual, I returned playing some Chinese music.
After my radio show, I decided to drop by at the other campus community at University of Ottawa. That’s right, CHUO, the “rival” station. I hung out for the 1pm show. In a way, it’s a breath of fresh air to chat about the music that I like and discuss about the upcoming festivals in Ottawa.
Here’s this week’s Wild 5 Countdown as Stars is still number one for a 3rd week.
The Wild 5 Countdown for week of May 19, 2010

As for the radio show, the final host break got cut off and it got altered as well. Don’t forget to check the playlist at this link.

The Darcys Interview for May 26, 2010
Whoa! What a scorcher in the Nation’s Capital. The start of the show did not have the usual opening themes of Being Erica or the theme to Street Fighter IV. Since it’s the unofficial start of Summer, I played the very classic My Girl by The Temptations. Wednesday’s show was brought to you with The Wild 5 Countdown, The Darcys interview and a new co-host joining. Probably a good show to say the least as I have been hampered with by being solo lately. There were a few goof ups during the radio show.
The Wild 5 Countdown, Stars is still number 1. Hannah Georgas is still hovering on the countdown. New entry is The Besnard Lakes. It’s a bit tough to doing the Top 5 as there’s so many new songs out.
It’s the final time to using the laptop as I will be using the iPad for next week’s show. Let’s hope the Apple device works well. Fingers crossed.
