Ottawa Pop Expo (Saturday Edition) – S09E12

Ottawa Pop Expo Saturday-97b
I had the opportunity to attend Ottawa Pop Expo, a pop culture fan convention which features genres from comics, sci-fi, horror, anime and a bunch of others. It’s in the realm of geek culture nonetheless. The convention is presented and run by the organizers of Ottawa Comiccon. It’s the first time the pop culture convention is being held in December as Ottawa Comiccon has been running for two years and held in May.

For this convention, I decided to take photos of the cosplayers for the fun of it. You will see a bunch of photos below. I totally forgot to create a main photo for the blog entry. Luckily, I took a photo of their podium as shown above.
I decided to check out the celebrity Q&A with Tom Felton. The actor who played Draco Malfoy from the Harry Potter film series. I got to deal with the screaming fans who are big into the actor.

Lastly, how could I say that I finally met one of Canada’s known wrestling analyst/commentator and TV personality, who’s currently with The Weather Network. It’s none other than Arda Ocal. I’ve been tweeting him back and fourth about wrestling and his time at The Score (now Sportsnet 360) on the programme, Aftermath. It’s a privilege to finally meet him and just good timing to see Ottawa become a fun city.

I will be back for another entry on Ottawa Pop Expo for Sunday and it’s most likely on Doctor Who.

It’s Support Local Month in Ottawa – S08E09

November is Support Local Month. For anyone who doesn’t know, it’s presented by the excellent Ottawa arts and culture blog, Apt613. Aside the fact that I didn’t have an interesting entry to write this week, I might as well write about this because I had the opportunity to go to the launch party at the Raw Sugar Cafe on November 1st. Another reason is that it’s mentioned in the video (below) for the trending topics. It’s good to give a local event some support.

The November 7th Radio Show
There was no interviews on this edition but good Canadian music being played. There’s a couple of bands and musicians who will be performing in Ottawa this week. The Darcys, The Luyas and Orit Shimoni  (Little Birdie) were played because they got shows for Friday night. There’s a lot of great acts coming to Ottawa in the next couple of weeks. Lauren came on the show for the live portion as she and other people are having trouble waking up due to the time chang.
On the Wild 10 Countdown, Diamond Rings is still number one for the second week. Apologies on not getting the entries posted up sooner.
The playlist for the show is over at this link.

WildWorks TV is back after a week’s absence. The filming was done after the radio show as it’s filmed at a different location and using a different camera. Trending topics for this week’s edition are Obama being re-elected for another 4 years, the aftermath of Superstorm Sandy, Movember and Support Local Month.
Hope you enjoy the audio and the video.

The Interviews with Data Romance and Robyn Dell’Unto – S08E07

As you know right now that CKCU-FM is having their annual funding drive and the goal for this year is $120,000. Please give support to excellent programming on community radio by pledging online at this link. CKCU provides various programming from general music to ethnic programs. It’s the heart to the communities in the Ottawa area.
This week’s edition of the show had interviews from Data Romance and Robyn Dell’Unto. Both of them were in Ottawa on the weekend and at separate events. Data Romance had a show at Babylon Nightclub as they opened up for Young Empires and Dragonette. Dell’Unto was one of the performers who took part at the Babes4Breasts event. It was a great event to attend Babes4Breasts as it’s a group of female artists coming together to raise money for the fight again breast cancer.
Even though the radio station is having the funding drive, I had to air both interviews as they were current. As usual, my co-host, Lauren joined me for the radio show and enjoyed the interviews that were aired and assisting me for the funding drive edition. Don’t forget to listen to the audio or watch the videos as it’s new feature for the blog.
The second episode of WildWorks TV is still a work in progress. Lauren and I discuss about trending topics from the news, social media & popular culture.
The Wild 10 Countdown has a new number one song this week and it’s Dan Mangan. The top 10 recap is posted at this link.
Keep on supporting community radio and donate if you can.

It Was Mostly Music Played This Week & A New Addition – S08E06

This week was just music being played on the radio show. There were no music interviews due to the post Canadian Thanksgiving holiday. There was an event I attended last Friday and it was the Herd Magazine launch party at Fall Down Gallery. Aside from it, that was it.
This was planned out of the blue and I decided to add a new segment to the blog. Prior to recording part of the radio show, I decided to come up with a video segment and it called WildWorks TV. It’s mainly talking about topics trending on social media. It will be less on the music and more on pop culture.
Apologies for the first episode due to the bad angling from the DSLR camera. It’s a work in progress. Hope you will enjoy the video segments. It’s a bit influenced from Nat & Marie as they talk about online culture. I’m waiting for their return on the interwebs. You can watch the video below.
This week’s top 10 countdown has a new countdown. To view the top 10 countdown, go to this link.
As for the radio show, Lauren and I played a bunch of new Canadian indie music and an Ellie Goulding track as she’s fallen in love with the new album, Halcyon.
Have a good week.

2 Hours Being On The Radio For Monday – S05E03

In The On-Air Studio at CKCU-FM
It was totally an awesome Monday because I got to co-host not only Horses Spilled Milk, but also Kristal’s Method on CKCU 93.1 FM. I won’t try to write a lot as I provided the audio from both shows, which you can only listen and not download. I hope I don’t get in trouble for it. It’s for my friends who missed out listening to me live.

A summary of Horses Spilled Milk were discussing about The Beatles, The Balconies (read the previous blog entry), a bit on TV Shows (vampire related shows) and the Kanye WestTaylor Swift incident at the 2009 MTV VMAs. It was nice to talk about pop culture. The lovely and main co-host, Erica, had to leave for class after the intro. I had to fill-in for this crazy edition of Horses Spilled Milk.

For Kristal’s show, it was relaxed as we briefly discussed a bit of the Polaris Music Prize Gala for next week, ticket prices at concerts, and some Metric talk. If you are wondering about the second last song being played, here’s the music video provided at the bottom of this entry. I saw the music video on The Wedge on MuchMusic not too long ago. Trust me, you will find the music video hilarious. Think About Life is an electronic-indie rock band from Montreal.

Hope you will enjoy listening to it. Apologies on the sound quality as I don’t know what happened when using Adobe Audition.
