Again at Arboretum Music Festival and It’s “See You In Hull” [Summer Specials]

OVV See You In Hull-15

On Tuesday night, Arboretum Music Festival held another free and fun event called See You In Hull, which was presented by Ottawa Vélo Vogue and Raw Sugar Cafe. It was a social and bike convoy event as people who brought their bicycles to travel from Raw Sugar Cafe in Ottawa Chinatown to Le Troquet in Hull, Quebec. Prior to the bike ride, there were portraits taken with people and their bikes.
At Raw Sugar Cafe, they had the delicious pull pork sandwich and chilli served.
The weather was also nice outside as it was totally sunny for the whole day.

For the photos, it is posted over at Flickr. The latter half of the photos were shot on the iPhone. You can check them out by clicking here.
Posted below are¬†The Impossible Project Cyanograph SX-70 instant photos. I held out using the experimental film as it’s quite a unique, single colour. I had a difficult time touching up the photo after it got scanned due to the sensitivity of the film.

Hope you will enjoy it.

It Was a Great Weekend Going to Two Museums – [Summer Special]

August 16 Frame

It has been a rainy week in the Nation’s Capital, but the wet soggy and chilly climate could not deter various events happening on the weekend. I had the opportunity to attend the Ottawa Mini Maker Faire, which was held at the Canada Science and Technology Museum. The family-friendly event which in its 4th year is a festival of creativity and showing inventions coming from a DIY aspect. A lot of exhibitors ranged from gadgets to a lot of demonstrations from robotics and products using 3D printing, just to name a few. There were workshops and panel during the event.
Over 600 plus came out to the event for Saturday, quite surprising as the festival brings out the fun technology in all ages.
Photos from the event are posted on Flickr, you can check the photos by clicking here.

The other museum to go on Saturday night was at the Canadian Museum of Nature. It was a lion dance performance for a wedding reception. Prior to performing, I brought along the Polaroid Spectra Camera to try shooting the double exposure effect. I posted two photos onto my Facebook page and I will post them here. The lion dance performance was great as usual and the newlyweds probably enjoyed the colourful lions dancing around them for good luck and prosperity.
The photos are also on Flickr, you can the photos by clicking here.

Overall, it was a great weekend in Ottawa. Another event is happening and that’s the Arboretum Music Festival. It’s in their 3rd year running and they got an excellent lineup from the Constantines, Kevin Drew, Hilotrons and a bunch of others. There’s definitely lots of do in Ottawa as Summer is not quite over yet.

Summer Special #4: Summer is Winding Down

Summer 2013 #4
In case you didn’t know, there hasn’t been a lot of entries throughout the Summer as the blog is on a hiatus. Things will be picking up come September. If you didn’t know, I’ve been taking instant film photos and it’s a way to keep up with the good memories. I wouldn’t say that I’m a trendsetter.
There will be changes to the radio show and the top 10 as they will be posted separately. The radio show is now on Mondays and the top 10 will be posted later in the week. Please continue the support in times of the change.

The reason for posting this entry up is that the August 26th radio show doesn’t have the On Demand stream posted up through CKCU-FM. You can listen to the audio from below. The past Summer shows haven’t been posted up as they’re available on CKCU On-Demand through the playlist.
This week’s show had new music from Masia One, Lindi Ortega, The Love Machine and Fevers. There was a tribute to Keiko Fuji as she tragically died on August 22nd. She’s the mother to J-POP superstar, Utada Hikaru¬†and also a singer from the 1970s in Japan. It’s sad to hear people from all walks of life dealing with mental illness.
The playlist can be seen over at this link.

As Summer ends, I hope you enjoyed a good one.
See you later!

Summer Special 2013: The Social Media Summer Series #2

Lenny and Jenna Instax

This week’s guest for the Social Media Summer Series, it was an opportunity to bring in Jenna Tenn-Yuk. All I have to say that she’s multi-talented with the poetry and music that she showcases. The topics discussed were blogging, some social media and what’s great about Ottawa.
Another part that was delved on today’s show as Tenn-Yuk wrote on her blog in 2012 about coming out of the closet. The topic on LGBT was brought up and I was being careful in asking the right questions.
Briefly mentioned during the music break was on the late singer, Leslie Cheung as I thought she might know Chinese music (known as Cantopop).

Songs played this week were new music from Shad, Basia Bulat, The Balconies and The Naked And Famous. It’s exciting to hear new releases from bands and artists as we anticipate their new record.
The playlist can checked at this link. You can listen to the audio below.

As usual, I was joined by Katarina, host of The Cloud on CKCU-FM. All in all, what a great way to end July. I totally apologize if I didn’t introduce her name on the air.
Lastly, I’m enjoying taking photos from the Fujifilm Instax. As the photo posted above was taken on the Instax. I may not be a trendsetter but I’m just having fun shooting photos from digital and analog.

Programming note, The Wild 10 Countdown will be on a Summer break and will try to post the July 24th edition as soon as possible.
Have a great long weekend as we get into August.

Update: Here are links as Tenn-Yuk was in the news about LBGT.
CBC Radio One interview on Ottawa Morning (August 23, 2013).
The Ottawa Citizen Op-Ed from August 19, 2013.

Summer Special – The Community Cup 2013

CKCU CBC Ottawa Commuity Cup Photo Frame

It’s soon to write a blog entry as the current season wrapped up but this is a Summer special. All I can say that it was a great opportunity to participate in The Community Cup for the second year and to support and represent CKCU-FM. What a way to start the Summer fun and a lead in to Canada Day.

I have to grin and bear it as Team CBC Ottawa beat Team CKCU to a score of 3-1. They took a nice revenge after a score-less tie from last year’s game. All in all, it’s for a good fun and no bitterness afterwards. You were awesome and a class act. It was also great to see Amanda Putz of CBC Bandwidth as I haven’t seen her around in quite awhile. Great to see get into the soccer spirit and downing Team CKCU.
I was able to shoot this video on Instagram of the post-game handshakes. Another Instagram video with Teri Loretto and Jewne Johnson doing the news. Lastly, I brought along the Fujifilm Instax Camera and the people were astonished to see the camera and instant film.

It was nice to have hosts of Fundamentally Sound and Debaser¬†take part in this year’s Community Cup and there were a few other hosts as well. Kudos to DJ 2 Creamz for DJing at the event as well.
Time to recover from the pain.

Photos are posted on Flickr at this link. Some photos are posted on Facebook over at this link.
On the Summer edition of WildWorks on CKCU, I will be airing some of the reactions and thoughts from the teammates and a few from CBC Ottawa.
Have a great Canada Day! You can check the photos from Canada Day over at this link.

Update for July 3rd – Audio segment from The Community Cup is posted up. It consisted of reactions of teammates from CKCU and CBC Ottawa. An apology as I forgot to give thanks to the organizers of The Community Cup on the radio show.
The Wild 10 Countdown for July 3rd entry is over at this link.

Enjoy!

Interview With Nat & Marie (Summer Special 2012)

The Summer edition for 2012 brings you the interview with Nat & Marie. After avoiding and being negative towards Canada’s largest city known as¬†Toronto.¬†I had the opportunity and a change of heart¬†for the city as I met up with the lovely ladies. I will admit that meeting Nat & Marie was the first priority over NXNE and I will leave it at that. Overall, they were great to chat with and I wasn’t overly nervous meeting them because I was in my comfort zone while interviewing them on the nice, warm June day (it was a Saturday) in Toronto.
The interview is in three parts and it mainly delves on social media and online culture. Aside from the interview, there’s the usual music and the top 10 being played on the Summer edition show.
Since it’s the Summer, the TV shows that I am watching are¬†Hell’s Kitchen, Masterchef and Dallas. Big Brother¬†is now added to the viewing list.
