Saturday’s Glow Fair and a Bit of Ottawa Asian Fest Night Market – S11E31

Glow Fair Saturday Main-1

There were lots of events happening on Saturday in the Nation’s Capital. From Ottawa Explosion Weekend to UFC to Ottawa Asian Fest Night Market and Glow Fair, there’s not much to miss around with the fun and Summer around the close corner.

I first went to Ottawa Asian Fest Night Market at Lansdowne Park, as my lion dance troupe performed for the opening ceremony. With the hot weather, it was pretty tough to perform in the sun. Photos posted below.

Day 2 of Glow Fair’s concert had Gang Signs from Vancouver, Ottawa’s own The Balconies, Halifax’s Rich Aucoin and Toronto’s Dragonette. Each ranged from the rocking to the dancing beats. Aucoin was the best from Saturday’s lineup because of his interactivity to the crowd and bringing in total fun. The Balconies, who I haven’t seen in a long time had some new members, a change from when they were a trio. Dragonette brought the crowd to its feet as Glow Fair concluded the concert series.

I also took a few Impossible Project black & white instant film photos. Finally tried to B&W 2.0 600 film as it improved the development process but the first photo with Rich Aucoin didn’t turn out good because parts of it was white.

It was a weekend to not forget from the events happening in and around Ottawa.
You can check out the loads of photos below.

Rich Aucoin at Nuit Blanche Montreal – S10E19

Rich Aucoin Nuit Blanche Main

It was an eventful weekend to end a cold and miserable month of February. On Friday night, it was Dan Mangan + Blacksmith at NAC and Saturday, it was meeting people at Ottawa Radio Club. Saturday night was going to Montreal for their Nuit Blanche. It was a last minute getaway to Montreal and to find out what their Nuit Blanche was like.

The first event to check was the Rich Aucoin concert at Metropolis. It’s been awhile I had seen Aucoin live as he brings a very interactive show. In Montreal, there’s more a enthusiastic crowd to live events and the one by Aucoin was no exceptions. He started with the talk of the social media buzz of the black & blue dress. The very entertaining video clips and lyrics to songs made the concert enjoyable. It had a party atmosphere when he used a lot of confetti and streamers. He kept coming to the crowd to have them sing along, jump and dance.

Towards the end of the show, a playground parachute was used and the Montreal crowd had fun with it.
The best thing about it was that the show was free as it was part of the Nuit Blanche program.

Don’t forget that Rich Aucoin will be playing at Ritual Nightclub on March 6. Continue reading

The Rich Aucoin Interview and Enjoying The New Co-Host – S06E07

On the (Canadian) Thanksgiving weekend, I had an opportunity to check out Rich Aucoin and Hey Rosetta! over at Capital Music Hall. Hot Hot Heat was the headlining band but decided to leave because bus service on Sunday night in Ottawa is not the best. I had the opportunity to interview Rich Aucoin as he was available to interviews and I was totally fine with it. Aucoin is one of those up and coming musicians who’s making interesting sounds to the Canadian music scene. You can say he blends a mix of Daft Punk and other techno bands from his music. For the live shows, it is very interactive as I got to experience the confetti, balloons, 3-D glasses and a parachute. His set was the most energetic. I hope you will enjoy the interview.

Wednesday’s radio show continues to be fun as I am very comfortable with the new co-host, Marzia. She is giving me more of a perspective on the alternative bands that she likes and the ones not getting a lot of airplay on mainstream stations. This week, we talked about OK Go as they are coming to Ottawa later this week. Overall, she is getting comfortable being on-air in Ottawa, Canada and she told me it was chaotic at the radio station in her hometown of Italy.
I began a new opening music as CKCU-FM will be celebrating their 35th anniversary and it’s fitting to use Anniversaries by The Love Machine as they are one of the bands that will be performing for CKCU’s 35th anniversary.
I also aired the 2nd part to the Grand Analog interview from Montreal. What was dealt in the second part were mentioning the Winnipeg music scene (in a humourous fashion), being friends with Shad, the Polaris Music Prize and the use of social media/network site.
I started the show with something nostalgic from the 1990s. Got to love music from England at that time period. Here’s the music video.
