May Sweeps and Chinatown Remixed – S06E36

Weekend Fun – Radio Show & May Sweeps (TV Shows)
It was an awesome weekend as it started off with The New Midnight Jamz on CKCU-FM. There were some guests and it became fun hanging around. There were models and then the other guest was a DJ and friends. Considering that it’s the final May to be on the show as the remaining weekends of May will have me absent. As for the models from Saturday’s show, they will be back again for my show for Wednesday morning.

Onto May sweeps, it’s this time of year when the TV season is finishing up. From the special podcast with Daddy Rich of The New Midnight Jamz, we talked about show which ended on Friday. It was Smallville as it wrapped ten seasons on TV. It’s astounding that it lasted ten years. The first song to start off was “Save Me” by Remo Zero. It’s going to be sad missing the song. Another show being discussed on the special podcast is Chuck as it wraps up its fourth season and great but sad news for the show is that it will be back for a fifth and final season with only 13 episodes. Also on the podcast were songs that were played on Chuck as some of the songs were from Canadian indie bands. Played were Stars, In-Flight Safety and Plants & Animals. Lastly, how can you not forget about Doctor Who as the current sixth series has been good.

You can listen to the special podcast and the May 14th edition of The New Midnight Jamz in the audio section. I will try to post up a playlist from the special podcast. Hope you will enjoy the podcast.

Chinatown Remixed 2011
This leads me to the other event on Sunday. It was Chinatown Remixed in Ottawa’s Chinatown on Somerset Street, I was there to support May-Jun as she had her art photograph displayed at one of the venues and do a live performance. After her performance, I decided to tag along and check out the other art and photo displays at various places on Ottawa Chinatown. It was all in great fun on a nice Sunday afternoon. Luckily, the rain held off for the rest of Sunday afternoon.
The photos are posted below. Enjoy!

Attended Ottawa Fashion Week 2011 and Radio Show – S06E29

If you think Ottawa does not have a fashion scene, think again! It does and this past weekend was no exception as Ottawa Fashion Week rolled on at The National Gallery of Canada. It is my second time to attend the event as I went for one night for the 2010 edition. This time, I brought along my co-host, Lauren to the event. Hopefully we will chat about the event for Wednesday’s radio show on CKCU-FM.
The showing from local designers were pretty good. Pretty stylish and unique. I do forget that the designers are based in Ottawa and some of their designs are very creative and engaging. I’m not considered a fashion expert, I’m trying to enjoy the events happening in Ottawa. Saturday’s event was the most important because there’s been a lot of talk about Rachel Sin, as she’s been doing pretty well in the Ottawa fashion scene.
Oh yes, it was nice to meet some bloggers at the event. Kudos to you. The bloggers I saw around were Pop Champagne, Dernier Cri, The Fashion Keeper, and Your Sweet Bippy.
The funny thing for Saturday’s event was grooving and head-bopping to certain songs. In a way, I got distracted with the music than watching the models on the runway.
Speaking of music, I got to see some of the usual Ottawa musicians perform before the start or during the fashion show. They were Scary Bear Soundtrack, Adam Saikaley (formerly on CBC Radio’s Bandwidth) and May-Jun.
Here are some photos from Friday and Saturday. I don’t have the designer’s names by memory. Hopefully some of the fashion bloggers will know it. I apologize with the image quality because I haven’t used a D-SLR camera in awhile.

Wednesday’s Radio Show – March 23, 2011
I had the opportunity to talk about attending Ottawa Fashion Week in the second hour of WildWorks. It was good to have my co-host, Lauren, join me at the fashion show and experience events in Ottawa. I forgot to mention the name of the designers on the podcast edition. I did mention some of the Ottawa-based designers on the live show. As usual, I was joined Erica and Digory as they provided their small jokes about having to wear “nice” clothing. I gave a shoutout to the bloggers (entry above) whom I saw at OFW. That’s my thanks to you. I should not forget about the songs I played throughout the show, as I am still hooked on The Naked and Famous, Lykke Li and Radiohead.
Also on the radio show, I gave a shoutout to RTHK’s Ellie Davis as she will be interviewing MGMT for Saturday. The band will be performing in Hong Kong on March 30. I am slightly jealous that she will have an opportunity to see the band.
You can listen to the radio show at the bottom of the entry.

Nightwood at Bands Undone, May-Jun & Wednesday’s Radio Show – S05E32

I had the opportunity to check out Nightwood at Bands Undone on Monday, January 18, 2010. It would be the first Bands Undone for 2010 and another unique performance because they were singing their stripped down versions of their songs. The band is from Montreal, Quebec and they have been together for about 10 years. Talk about how time flies by so quickly.
There will be an audio interview with Nightwood coming sometime next month as I am still backlogged from other interviews from November and December. All I will say that it will be a funny and interesting interview when it will be aired.
You can view the photos from the Flickr link.
Video is available at this link and also available on YouTube.
Review from Bands Undone is at this link. Check it out!

May-Jun on Audio Sensory Resuscitation at CKCU-FM – S05E31

I had an opportunity to give the host of Audio Sensory Resuscitation a guest on the show. It’s the first time for him and myself to having a guest perform live on the radio show. The previous Wednesday (Jan. 6) would of been his first show of the new decade but he got sick and was unable to do so. Luckily, it was my first radio show of 2010. We had May-Jun on the show and she got to play her live on the radio and there were giveaways on the show for the lucky people who got to call in. We also talked about what she does when she’s not in music mode and also promoting her free show at Zaphod Beeblebrox on January 18, 2010.
Even though, it did not make the cut on the Bands Undone video for Sadie Hell (she’s now a member of the band), I got to remind May-Jun about the blue guitar she owns and I won’t mention too much because you have to listen to it (barring no volume problems).

Here’s hoping May-Jun reads this part. I didn’t get a chance to ask her on-air about a certain music genre if she knew about it. There were three songs I had wish to play but due to time, there was no need. Here’s the links of the songs I kind of wanted to play, link #1, link #2 (the 2 are by the same singer) and link #3 (not the best quality).  It’s not a big deal that I didn’t ask, but hoping you like those songs. I am not sure if you were influenced by that music genre. I was also listening to those songs when I was on the bus to CKCU/Carleton University.
Here’s a link from her MySpace on her fun times.
The playlist of the show is at this link. If you want to find out what songs she played, you can also download her music at http://may-jun.bandcamp.com/.
You can listen to the show by pressing play or you can download it (Don’t forget to save as after the audio is downloaded).

Note: There might be volume issues throughout the audio. Apologies for the inconvenience.
Here’s the video of May-Jun and host, Mike dancing around to this song called Sweet Music. Here’s the YouTube version for anyone who’s having trouble viewing on Vimeo.
