Due to the long holiday weekend, I didn’t bring up any guests relating to social media. For this week’s Summer show, I decided to go into the pop culture through TV shows and movies. Two cult shows were trending throughout the weekend.
Doctor Who announced the new Doctor to replace Matt Smith, the Eleventh Doctor. The BBC had a Doctor Who Live special to reveal “who” the next Doctor was. It happened to be Peter Capaldi. The actor appeared in a previous episode of Doctor Who (in Series 4) and on Torchwood: Children of Earth. On my radio show, I played the Doctor Who theme but totally forgot to mention the new Doctor. This is my make up to a mention of the new Doc as he will regenerate at the upcoming Christmas Special. It will be exciting to have an older Doctor take over as fans like myself get used to seeing a younger Doctor who was 40 years and under.
Onto the other hit show. It was slightly low key in North America because it was announced over in Japan. Sailor Moon will be back in the Winter and to be stream worldwide via niconico. Not much has been said about the returning series, in terms of the voice actors have not been revealed. It’s definitely going to be exciting to watch a new series and unbelievable that the anime series is twenty years old.
On the radio show, the original theme song was played along with a soundclip of Sailor Moon’s attack.
Lastly, to round out the radio show summary, Faye Wong songs were played August 8th is her birthday. Off-air, I tried to get the acting CKCU Program Director to guess one of Faye Wong’s song. It was originally done by Karyn White and the song was “Superwoman.” One more Hong Kong pop culture to mention was Chow Yun Fat returning to do a Hong Kong film.
Another pop culture tidbit was playing Eyes On Me from Final Fantasy VIII as I have been playing some video games recently. Though, I haven’t played through Final Fantasy VIII.
Music played this week had new tracks from likes of MGMT, Volcano Choir, You Say Party and The Darcys. I was joined by Summer guest co-host, Katarina, host of The Cloud on CKCU-FM.
It’s soon to write a blog entry as the current season wrapped up but this is a Summer special. All I can say that it was a great opportunity to participate in The Community Cup for the second year and to support and represent CKCU-FM. What a way to start the Summer fun and a lead in to Canada Day.
I have to grin and bear it as Team CBC Ottawa beat Team CKCU to a score of 3-1. They took a nice revenge after a score-less tie from last year’s game. All in all, it’s for a good fun and no bitterness afterwards. You were awesome and a class act. It was also great to see Amanda Putz of CBC Bandwidth as I haven’t seen her around in quite awhile. Great to see get into the soccer spirit and downing Team CKCU.
I was able to shoot this video on Instagram of the post-game handshakes. Another Instagram video with Teri Loretto and Jewne Johnson doing the news. Lastly, I brought along the Fujifilm Instax Camera and the people were astonished to see the camera and instant film.
It was nice to have hosts of Fundamentally Sound and Debaser take part in this year’s Community Cup and there were a few other hosts as well. Kudos to DJ 2 Creamz for DJing at the event as well.
Time to recover from the pain.

On the Summer edition of WildWorks on CKCU, I will be airing some of the reactions and thoughts from the teammates and a few from CBC Ottawa.
Have a great Canada Day! You can check the photos from Canada Day over at this link.
Update for July 3rd – Audio segment from The Community Cup is posted up. It consisted of reactions of teammates from CKCU and CBC Ottawa. An apology as I forgot to give thanks to the organizers of The Community Cup on the radio show.
The Wild 10 Countdown for July 3rd entry is over at this link.
It was the final day of Ottawa Fashion Week’s Autumn/Winter edition and I did not expect to attend but it was due to some luck and also a fun opportunity to see people again. Afterall, it was great to see the usual photographers at the photo pit and there were a few new joiners to the ruckus and humorous crowd of the photographers. Due to my own bungling, I forgot to get the program guide for Sunday’s OFW event. There were some new designers appearing at OFW from the likes of Loft 604. The Sunday lineup also had Ella Peru, Helmer, & Symbiose by Hinda A.
The highlight of the night was the Runway for a Better Way as it was a charity to support UNICEF Canada. Celebrities from Elizabeth Manley, Lianne Liang, Gabrielle Miller (Corner Gas), singer/actress Cory Lee, social media/blogger Casie Stewart, Erica Wark and etc. The photos are be posted below.
It was nice to have a bit of CKCU-FM connection (aside from Jewne on Fundamentally Sound) at OFW as one of the photographers is on Carleton University’s Journalism program, Midweek. Her is blog is called Always On.
Uh-oh! It’s My Birthday
Being that it’s February 20th and it’s also Family Day in Ontario. That’s right, it’s my birthday today and it’s nice that friends are posting their birthday greetings on my Facebook wall. I would be put in tears to read through them. I know it sounds sentimental.
Another thing to drive me crazy is my iPhone ringing off the hook from the Facebook notifications.
What will I be doing on the special day? Not very much to say the least and being that certain places are closed for Family Day, it will be a relaxing day.
Here’s a photographer friend who took this shot of me at OFW.

OK, I had an itch to blog something as it’s food related. Before going to CKCU-FM, I decided to go to The Cupcake Lounge to try out their cucpakes. As usual, I would buy cupcakes before going to a radio show at CKCU. Never on my show because I’m on for Wednesday mornings and the cupcake places don’t open at 10am and I’m stuck at the station. It used to be on Saturday nights but this time, it was on Thursday from 12-2pm for Fundamentally Sound. The photo displayed, top left was Key Lime, bottom left was Chocolate Dulce du Leche and then the others were Cherry (middle) and Red Velvet (right). I had Fundamentally Sound’s Dennis and Jewne and even the CKCU Sponsorship Coordinator try them out. Their verdict on the cupcakes by The Cupcake Lounge were great. For myself, I had Red Velvet, Cherry and Key Lime. When I had the Key Lime after the show finished up, I was close to having a cupcake coma due to their excellent icing. Overall, the cupcakes were excellent and it’s nice that they were freshly made. The icing weren’t overly sweet. Remind myself to get an extra bottle of water to overcome the icing.
Lastly, I’ve decided to post up the radio show from my mine and for Fundamentally Sound on here. Enjoy another Summer special entry!

What could I say about helping out on the February 12th edition of The New Midnight Jamz on CKCU-FM. Aside that it was the Valentine’s Day edition, I decided to bring something that’s nice and yummy. That’s right, it’s cupcakes! The photo above are from The Flour Shoppe. If I can remember the flavours, from top left to bottom right, double chocolate, chocolate peanut butter, strawberry, coconut, chocolate chip pancake, and black & white. There were three more cupcakes that I got at Thimble Cakes. It’s pictured on the bottom and the three flavours were lemon, strawberry cheesecake (the one with the black heart) and mint chocolate. Unfortunately, I did not try the ones from Thimble Cakes but the host and one of the co-hosts from The New Midnight Jamz liked the cupcakes. Apologies on the Thimble Cakes photo because I kind of slipped the box when I was putting it in the bag. Overall, the gang and special guest, Dennis of Fundamentally Sound (airs on Thursday from 12-2pm at CKCU-FM) liked the cupcakes from the two shops. There was jokes on the milk when one of the hosts brought 1% milk. The others aren’t fans of that kind.
Saturday night’s radio show was totally hilarious with the hot topic about hall pass. It had something to do about a movie coming out soon. There was a lot of laughter during the segment.
It was great to have another radio show host (including myself) just having a great time on The New Midnight Jamz.
Without further ado, the audio from The New Midnight Jamz on CKCU-FM. I only talked during the first host break. There’s two photos posted at the bottom.
Tempted to get cupcakes?

It’s this time of year where I sporadically post entries during the Summer. I had the opportunity to go for more Cisco Ottawa Bluesfest dates compared to last year. I was able to do audio interviews with several artists. It will be provided here. Overall, I was excited to see some of the performing acts. Worse part was enduring the heat.
The Ottawa Folk Festival Edition (Posted on August 18, 2010)
You can listen to the August 18th edition of the radio show. Aside from the top 10 countdown and Arcade Fire songs, there were interviews from Rolf Klausener of The Acorn, Aidan Knight, Jill Zmud, & Jim Bryson.
Press play to listen.
Apparently, I am taking part in this blog rally challenge, check the blog link out by clicking here. If you like my entry on Ottawa Bluesfest or the radio show, just comment away. Finished on July 26th.
